When is World Day for Safety and Health at Work?

The annual World Day for Safety and Health at Work is on the 28th of April 2025.

What is World Day for Safety and Health at Work?

This is a day celebrated worldwide across the United Nations which raises awareness about Occupational Health and Safety at Work. It gives people and organisations across the world an opportunity to talk about existing and emerging issues affecting H&S, and the measures they are taking to prevent them and protect lives.

Why is this day important?

Back in 2003, the International Labour Organisation began to promote this day to spread awareness of the prevention of accidents and diseases within the workplace. This is one of the main strategies implemented by the ILO to raise the political profile of occupational health and safety.

As the United Nations emphasises, each and every person is responsible for preventing injury and promoting safety at work. Whether you are an employee, an employer or a part of the government, our responsibility is paramount to the safety of ourselves, colleagues and workers across the globe.

What is the focus of the 2025 World Day?

This is yet to be announced by the International Labour Organisation. Keep your eyes peeled between now and the 28th of April for this year’s topic announcement!

What was last year’s Safety and Health at Work focus?

World Day for Safety and Health at Work in 2024 was focused on the impact of Climate Change.

This topic is most commonly associated with the weather, harsher winters, hotter summers and more extreme weather events are becoming more normal than ever. However, considering the impact of these environmental hazards on employees and workers across the globe is paramount.

As workers are usually at the frontline of these weather hazards – considering and planning against the risks that can occur can protect the impact it can have. According to an ILO report, it is clear that climate change has created a vast number of health hazards which are impacting 70% of the world’s workers.
