Site inspections are our most popular and sought after service. We carry out inspections across a wide range of site activities. If possible electronic copies of reports are left on site with a typed copy entered into our database within 48 hours of the inspection and then distributed to the relevant members of the client’s senior management team. Our uniquely & specifically built client database recording system provides clients with significant management advantages over other reporting systems in terms of analysis and trend setting – see specific section on Database System.
Our standard inspection and report covers 10 main KPI’s:
- Working at height
- Other work activites & PUWER
- Traffic Management, mobile plant and LOLER
- Protection to/from others & site security
- Health, Manual Handling & PPE
- Environmental issues & waste
- Emergency arrangements
- Welfare arrangements
- Administration & training records
For major clients we can and do use their own specific report forms if they request this.
Hurst Setter have a newly upgraded, unique and specifically designed database system which all of our clients who have site inspections have access to. For larger client’s multiple log in’s can be created ranging from an admin log in for a senior member of management who needs global access to all results down to regional log in’s to provide access only to certain areas of the portal. The database system is a really powerful tool and as well as giving instant access to all reports which can be downloaded and printed direct from the database it also analyses all of the results and shows results in a range of graphical formats. This can help clients identify trends, pick out which month in a year they had the most issues and using the search bars can even drill down into individual sites where issues were in terms of contraventions. It is a very powerful and unique system which we believe sets our inspections apart from any other service offered on the market currently.

Auditing is a term often misused or confused in the safety industry. The main misconception to remember is that a site inspection is not an audit. A site audit requires much more time than an inspection as it is as much paperwork based as it is site based. When requesting an audit clients must first decide what they want from an audit, such as:-
Compliance Audit – an independent thorough check on a client’s entire HSE system (or a specific part of their system) to ensure it is compliant with legal requirements; or
Operational or Performance Audits – in this type of audit the auditor thoroughly examines the efficiency, effectiveness and economy of the HSE operations to make sure the client’s systems are delivering the expected outcome in a user friendly and efficient manner.
Our auditors will normally use a client’s own bespoke audit form to audit the use and performance of a client’s management system on a live site. They will then make recommendations on any areas which aren’t being used correctly or are underperforming.
We can work with a client to write/tailor an audit document if they don’t have their own but are equally happy to use the clients own document. Used correctly audits can be a very beneficial tool in a client measuring if their management system & policies are firstly being used correctly and secondly if they are effective.
We have professionally trained members of staff who conduct accident/incident investigations. If it is a serious accident and you are already a client of ours we will guarantee to get someone to you within 24 hours. For smaller incidents/accidents a timescale will be agreed with the client. Investigations will include a factual section but also a discussion paper from the investigator which will try and identify any causes, root causes and recommendations to ensure there is no recurrence.
Hurst Setter can assist in the production of Health and Safety and Environmental Policy documents. We can also assist in the production of risk assessments, method statements, COSHH assessments and other SHE documentation.
With regard to clients who use the inspection service, the Hurst Setter database of site inspections will be a useful tool in being able to show in an audit-able format how HS&E non-compliance at site level is identified and the necessary corrective actions are taken. An invaluable addition to any management system.
As a nationwide company we can conduct environmental audits and across a wide range of industries. Full audit reports will be provided outlining key issues and any recommendations to ensure compliance with current legislation.
Our audits will show exactly how you measure up to environmental legislation requirements, and whether your performance is up to standard. It will act as a benchmark from which you can form an environmental plan.
